Mini Travel Guide to L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, France

South of France Travel Guide Part I

I’ve had so many questions about my recent trip to the South of France that I’m sharing a three-part series covering our travels. We had the best time! I’d definitely recommend visiting this part of France in May because we had blue skies and 70 degree temps the entire trip! It couldn’t have been more perfect for sightseeing!

We spent about 10 days in France and our first stop was L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue. I came across this small provincial town on Pinterest and fell in love with the many canals that go through the village. As a result, I decided to make this place our home-base during the first part of our stay. It’s only about 30-45 minutes drive to other towns that we wanted to explore, Lacoste, Gordes, Avignon, St. Remy de Provence and Bonnieux. L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is where a lot of locals live and work so it was great to see a true French town. We flew into Marseille, rented a car and made our way.

Lodging.
I opted to book an apartment with Haven In, a luxury boutique rental company. Our second story apartment was located directly in the town’s center across from the Church. It was in a perfect location for grabbing coffee, baguettes, cheese and fresh flowers! The apartment was filled with lots of natural light and all of the windows opened to bring in fresh air. It was a no-fuss one bedroom flat that was perfect for us since we wanted to experience this town like a local. Parking also wasn’t an issue. There are a variety of free parking lots within a 1-2 mile radius.

Dining.
Usually in the morning, we would eat local cheese (we loved the selection at Olive et Raisin) with a fresh baguette and fruit that we bought during the weekly open air Markets.

Grab a coffee Americano at Cafe de France! It’s the most charming building and it’s where locals and tourists alike start their mornings.

For lunch, I would absolutely recommend Vert Bouteille, a vegan restaurant in the heart of the village. The food was so fresh and delicious. Order a glass of rosé and play with Cashew, the owner’s dog while waiting for your food. They also offer fresh juices too if you want something quick.

We typically visited a nearby town for dinner but any of the restaurants on the canal are great.

Things to Do.
Book your stay around the market schedule so that you can experience the open air markets which are held twice a week. There is a very large antique market held in the city center every Sunday and a fresh produce and artisan market every Thursday. Both are large and bring so much energy to the village.

Every morning I took my camera and walked around the village to take pictures. It was such a beautiful time to explore the neighborhoods and pass locals. You can’t get lost because all roads either lead to the canal or the village center.

Go antique shopping! L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is known for their antiques, which is why they are known as the antique capital in France! The town has dozens of shops scattered along the canal.

I’ll be sharing more of our France travel itineraries over the next few weeks so stay tuned. In the meantime, enjoy these pictures!
