Outdoor Entertaining Tips

[From The Archives] Outdoor Entertaining with Pottery Barn

While cooler Fall days are just around the corner, I still have outdoor entertaining on my mind. I want to make the most of these long summer nights and enjoy hosting friends. So if you’re feeling the same way, follow these three easy tips to create an inviting + cozy backyard gathering, which I also shared last year when we partnered with Pottery Barn.

  1. Offer your guests a signature cocktail that incorporates seasonal ingredients. The classic Moscow Mule is a fabulous summer beverage. It is comprised of vodka, ginger beer, lime juice and mint, and traditionally served in a copper mug. Display the ingredients on a serving tray for a clean look. You can even write out the recipe so guests can follow the simple instructions to make their cocktail with ease.
  2. Forage for flowers in your own backyard or neighborhood to create a flower arrangement. Gather wildflowers and place them in a rustic vase that has a good bit of height. When styling a table, always think about adding height to create a focal point.
  3. Light candles to provide a cozy + approachable setting. Votive candles are great on your coffee table or even in an outdoor fireplace when you want to fill the space but don’t want to heat the surrounding area. Add succulents, air plants and moss around the table to soften and frame the centerpiece. Light the candles about 15 minutes prior to your guests arrival.
