I would bet that many of you have updated your home in some way or another during this past year, whether it was adding new pillows to your sofa or renovating a kitchen. This pandemic has caused many of us to work from home and as a result truly think about what is important to us. Spending more time at home has been a blessing since Julia was born in May. We were forced to slow down, travel less and focus on family. To us it meant more last-minute picnics in the park, trips to the beach and strolls around our city. Since we were spending more time at our house we decided to give our guest bathroom some much needed TLC. Our guest bathroom is the one room that we didn’t fully update when we purchased our home over two years ago. The space is finally finished and I’m excited to share it with you today.

The Design.

If you want to transform a bathroom, invest in tile. Color, shape, quantity and pattern all contribute to the overall look and feel — and can really make a big impact! Because this space is next to my foyer that is covered in blue and white wallpaper, I was looking for a clean, fresh and airy design. Luckily, Garden State and Tile’s showroom is located in downtown Savannah. I’ve turned to them for our other home projects, such as my main bathroom and powder room and I’ve always had a great experience. I opted for white marble floors in a small hex shape which gives nod to the history of the home. These specific floors are called Sweet White Hex (honed) in a 2.75″ size. When I was selecting an option for the shower wall, I fell in love with the creamy and matte look of Garden State Tile’s 3″x12″ Maritime Collection in Cape May Buff. The beige tile softened the bright white stone on the floor and provided the perfect backdrop to my polished nickel fixtures.

Because my bathroom has a small footprint, I opted to have the hex white marble tile cover the shower floor as well. This way it makes the space feel and look larger. I’m in love with the choices, and it’s now a space that makes me happy.

Lastly, to offset the white and beige tile I painted the trim Farrow & Ball Green Blue. I adore this fresh color that can appear green or blue depending upon the sunlight. The color also adds a playfulness to the room.

Though the paint and tile completely transformed the room, the biggest functional change was adding a stackable and vent-less washer and dryer. Of course having a washer and dryer on the third floor and near Julia’s bedroom is a game changer. It’s so easy now to wash sheets, or Julia’s never-ending messy bibs! Rather than adding plain cabinet doors to hide the washer and dryer I worked with my contractor to design the doors with natural caning. It’s both practical and pretty! And, the best part is that I ordered the caning through Amazon.

To finish the space, I hung a faux bamboo pendant light that I’ve had for many years. I painted it the same color as the trim (F&B Green Blue) which works well with the polished nickel plumbing fixtures from the Kohler Artifacts Collection.

Now we have a very practical and sweet bathroom for Julia and our guests.
