My Favorite Warm Essentials for Winter

Warm Up Your Winters Days with J.McLaughlin and Boozy Hot Toddy Cocktails

On January 10th, I experienced my first ice storm in Southern Georgia and as I’m writing this post from a local coffee shop, it’s 28 degrees outside! To say that 2018 has been colder than usual is an understatement. As a result, Casey and I have been spending more evenings at home by the fire. We’re welcoming the colder temperatures and using it as an excuse to test healthier dinner recipes (thanks to the @thecookfeed) and catch up on a good book (currently reading The Book of Joy). It’s been a nice and much-needed slow start to the year.

When the temperatures drop, I warm up with my favorite boozy Hot Toddy recipe along with my cozy essentials from J.McLaughlin. Since my wardrobe is mostly resort wear, thanks to island living, it lacks heavy sweaters and winter coats. In order to get the most out of my wardrobe, I like to buy extra soft and lightweight pieces that layer well for added warmth, like this heather beige cashmere cardigan and striped crewneck sweater. That way, I can wear them into other seasons. I usually opt for neutral colors too so that they layer beautifully with almost everything in my closet. Living in the South, I invest in a classic pair of white jeans usually every spring because I wear them almost every day.  J.McLaughlin’s Lexi jeans are the perfect shade of white for summer and also winter!

Speaking of winter, the peak season for Meyer lemons is from November until March, so I’ve been taking daily trips to my backyard to pick citrus from my lemon trees. I add fresh lemon slices to my hot tea in the mornings and evenings but I’ve also been using them in my go-to Hot Toddy recipe. It’s seriously my favorite recipe to make especially when I have a sore throat. My recipe includes bourbon but you can always skip the booze and it’s still delicious!

If you’ve seen my Instastories then you know that I love using fresh lemons (from the tree in my backyard) for everything that I can while they’re in season. So when the temperatures drop, I warm up with a boozy hot toddy 🍋 and cozy essentials from @jmclaughlinny. Casey and I have been using the colder weather as an excuse to stay in most nights and light a fire (and I think that the pups like it too). Do you have a favorite go-to recipe for cold days?! Please share because the temps are supposed to drop again this week! [Click link in bio for outfit details and recipe] #thejmclife #lavinliving Special thanks to 🎥 @hamilton.hayes
