Recently, I had the chance to enjoy a fabulous dinner at Cotton & Rye, near historic Downtown Savannah. In 1953 the building was completed and originally was home to a bank. This space has been used for several functions since then. However, the actual bank vault was transformed into a private dining area–something I’ve never seen before! The restaurant is the perfect blend of a sophisticated and relaxed atmosphere. The modern white brick, open air feel, and cotton accents add character to the restaurant. They also have a fabulous outdoor space that is perfect for dining al fresco in the spring or summer, or even enjoying a cocktail.
Their menu varies from speciality salads, to carefully crafted seafood dishes and more traditional entrees like steak or fried chicken. The restaurant focuses on sourcing local ingredients and they change their menu based on what fruits and vegetables are in season. All of their charcuterie, pickling and bread is made in house! It’s a great value for your money, since the food is fabulous and you can even order three sides for only $12. All of their dishes are delicious, but I particularly enjoyed the mussels and the burger!
I was fortunate to spend time with the general manager–Kimberely Whitestone–who is beyond gracious and truly created a memorable dining experience. She clearly has a passion for the restaurant industry and does and outstanding job with her team at Cotton & Rye.
After checking out their impressive whiskey shelf, which is entirely dedicated to American-made whiskey, you’ll probably want to try one of their cocktails! I recommend the one legged gingerbread man or the cajun spiced rum with fresh nutmeg. If you fall in love with one of their creative cocktails, make sure to let me know! I highly recommend Cotton & Rye, and if you get the chance, you should definitely dine there on a Tuesday while listening to their live music.
