My Savannah Home Kitchen Tour Part I

My Kitchen Reveal

This Post is in Partnership with Sub-Zero, Wolf and Cove.
Thank You for Supporting Brands that Support Lavin Label.

One of my favorite spaces to refresh is the kitchen! It’s the heart of the home and it’s where I spend most of my time. I typically start my mornings sipping an iced vanilla chai while catching up on email in my new cozy nook. Because my kitchen has loads of natural light I gravitate toward this space not only in the mornings but also throughout the day. The dogs also like to sit on the wood floor and bask in the light. Since this space is so special to me, I’m excited to give you a tour on the blog today! Due to the scale of the refresh, I decided to publish it in two parts.

The Before.

The Refresh Plan.

First, I created an inspiration board that included my choice of paint colors, fabrics, lighting and appliances. I never skip this step because it allows me to see everything together and help identify things that work and don’t work well in the space.

Paint Colors.

I definitely wanted to keep the kitchen light and airy so I opted to paint the cabinets, trim and ceiling Farrow & Ball Mizzle.

The color is a soft grey green and I love how everything turned out. What I love about Farrow & Ball Mizzle, like most of their paints, is that it’s such a multidimensional color that changes throughout the day depending upon the light. I also love the way the color makes our new stainless steel Sub-Zero refrigerator and Wolf dual fuel range pop.

Appliance Choices.

My husband and I spent a lot of time selecting the perfect appliances, especially since he is in the food and beverage industry. We specifically wanted to update the refrigerator, range and dishwasher. We were looking for appliances that of course enhanced the décor but also provide quality that would last.

Last fall I took a trip to Madison, Wisconsin to visit the headquarters of Sub-Zero, Wolf and Cove. It was a real treat to tour their facilities and meet the talented and humble team of chefs, craftsmen and women and designers of that make up this third generation family-owned business. I left Madison feeling inspired to cook fresh, quality food and since then I’ve been counting down the days when I could have their appliances in my home. And our kitchen refresh was the perfect excuse! After seeing their commitment to quality and craftsmanship first-hand, it truly was a no-brainer decision to go with their appliances.

We choose the following:

Now that we have the appliances installed in the space (thank you Livingoods), we’re experiencing the attention-to-detail first-hand.

And we especially love:

  • The freshness cards located on the inner door of the refrigerator that maps out which drawers and shelves store certain types of food to maximize preservation.
  • How easy it is to clean up spills around the burners with the cast iron gates.
  • The dual convection oven that creates just the right cooking environment for everything (thanks to 10 different cooking modes).
  • The temperature probe that alerts you when the dish has reached the desired temp (no overcooking chicken anymore, ha).
  • The fully-adjustable racks in the dishwasher that slant to accommodate large or differently shaped plates and pans. Not to mention, it’s also nearly silent when running (seriously!)
  • The ability to monitor and control the appliances remotely through my app. We can set preheat temperatures, start wash cycles, check on cooking progress, receive alerts when detergent/rinse aid is low and even sign up to automatically order refills with Amazon.

Feeling excited and inspired, Casey and I have been cooking using the freshest ingredients, sourcing produce from the Farmer’s Market in nearby Forsyth park. It’s transformed cooking at home into an enjoyable and memorable experience. Head on over to Pinterest to check out the dishes that I’ve been cooking! I’ve been pinning the ones that I’ve tried and loved.

Cabinet Adjustments.

I shared via my Instagram stories the day the appliances were installed and I had a lot of questions about what modifications that we had to make so I thought that I’d outline those adjustments for you. If you are building a new kitchen, then you would just give the specifications sheet (available online) to your contractor. The spec sheets highlight the exact placement of gas, water and electrical requirements. Since we were fitting the appliances into our existing cabinet design, we had to make the following minor modifications:

  • Install an electrical outlet for the Cove dishwasher (our old dishwasher was hardwired).
  • Move an electrical outlet for the Sub-Zero refrigerator.
  • Remove a cabinet for the Sub-Zero refrigerator (this one is much taller than our last one).
  • Install a gas line for the Wolf range.
  • Design a custom hood to accommodate the new Wolf range.
  • Order a custom front panel for our Cove dishwasher – we chose the panel ready model so it would blend in with the surrounding cabinetry.

It took about 1 day for all of the sub-contractors to complete their work because not everyone could work in the kitchen at the same time. Scott with Livingood’s, which is part of Sub-Zero, Wolf, and Cove’s network of Factory Certified Installers, was super helpful in printing out the spec sheets for us and highlighting the necessary information needed for the sub-contractors. Our biggest challenge was waiting for the panel and hood which obviously had to be custom ordered. That was it!

Cabinet Hardware.

It’s amazing how little details can make a large impact. I turned to Top Knobs for my kitchen cabinet hardware. I used them for my powder room and fell in love with the quality, look and style. Because they have such a large array of options, I used their ‘Find Your Style’ tool to explore all of their traditional hardware collections. For my kitchen, I opted for Top Knobs Brixton Pulls and Knobs. They were very easy to install and I love how the polished nickel finish matches my kitchen faucet and stainless steel appliances. The pulls and knobs definitely add a classic look to the overall space. What I love most about Top Knobs is that their products have a nice weight to them, making them durable and luxurious.

Thanks for reading! Since this post was a bit longer than most I broke it up into two parts. I wanted to include all of the details so that it would be helpful to you. I learned so much during our renovation that I wanted to capture all of the information. I hope that you’ve enjoyed this kitchen reveal! Thanks again for stopping by!
