Chocolat by Adam Turoni

Savannah's Sweetest Shop

If you have a sweet tooth, then you absolutely have to visit Chocolat by Adam Turoni during your next visit to Savannah. His two different stores are truly every chocolate lover’s dream! The flagship store, The Dining Room, is located on Broughton Street, in the heart of Savannah’s downtown historic district. The second store is the Chocolat Library, on Bull Street.

The gorgeous, and not to mention delicious, creations range from mint julip truffles to caramelized chocolate covered hazelnuts and everything in between. Some of his more creative sweets include bacon butter pecan toffee, mexican mocha melts, and even habanero caramel truffles. While you can order these desserts online, visiting either of the stores is truly an experience that engages all of your senses. While both of the stores are beautifully decorated, the library is definitely one of the cutest pastry shops I have ever seen. All of the chocolates are kept in bookcases, and the library theme is carried throughout the store. The moment you step inside, you feel inclined to explore the chocolate aisles. Be careful–it may be hard to resist their fabulous creations, especially when they are displayed on gorgeous silver trays.  Not only does Adam focus on making delicious desserts, but he loves to use local ingredients and come up with bold and over the top designs.

Adam Turoni, the chocolatier and founder, realized his love of baking when he was 8 years old. He would stay up late baking cookies for his whole family with the help of his grandmother.  At the age of 14, he began his first real job in a kitchen. By 17, he was working as a pastry chef in Pennsylvania. He is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in New York, where he also worked as a pastry chef. He still credits Peter Greweling, an acclaimed pastry chef, author, and his teacher, for fostering his curiosity for experimenting with the creation of new chocolate treats. Adam pursued his passion in pastries and founded his company by the time he was 20. Since then, he has been featured in the show Cooking with Paula Deen, and the Travel Channel’s Booze Traveler. His signature creation is the Honeycomb Chocolate Bar, which won him a food award from Southern Living Magazine. This January, he was named as one of the top 10 chocolatiers in North America by the industry’s top publication: Dessert Professionals.

At the young age of 26, he’s certainly experienced a lot of success in his career. You can find his chocolate in many downtown shops, as turndown treats, and evens as gifts for special occasions. He loves to work with clients to dream up unique mini chocolate masterpieces for different corporate events. Perhaps his secret to success is his passion for making the best and most beautiful chocolate, coupled with his effervescent attitude. Make sure to save room for dessert and explore either of these incredible chocolate shops when you’re in Savannah.
